New York Metropolitan Region: Modernizing the Representation of Black People in 18th- and 19th-Century England (Virtual)
A Look at Recent Adaptations
Recent adaptations of Bridgerton, Sanditon, and David Copperfield have been notable for their casting of black actors in roles that may previously have been seen as white. Professor Gretchen Holbrook Gerzina, who works in the fields of Black British studies, Victorian studies, African American women's writing, and mixed race studies, will be the presenter.
Dr. Gerzina has published nine books in these fields of study and works extensively in media in both the US and UK. She is a Professor of English at the Commonwealth Honors College at the University of Massachusetts.
